Krauthammer is kinda full of shit in a lot of ways in this article (nearly of the ‘obama debt’ is actually ‘bush debt’ (economy, Iraq war, tax cut). This is a pretty tasty preview, I think of what some of this years elections (and even more so, 2012) will look like. Reports of mass Democratic demise in 2010 are very premature (of course lots of seats will be lost, mostly because Obama isn’t on the ballot, but 1994 this is not).
This country is desperately in need of proper taxation. Raising it on upper tax brackets would be the best way, but we’ll probably tax the poor instead.

I’d like to see our current tax rate just get collected. The people in the 35% bracket actually pay something like 25% on average because they are very good at exploiting the tax law. I feel like removing deductions might be more politically palatable than general raises.
In the mean time, taxes on the poor already *have* been increased, in the form of rises in sales tax and other fee collections all over the US, as well as cuts in funding and services to the poor.
