Airport security

As usual, someone has already solved the problem (in this case, airport security) , and as usual we’re gonna ignore that and keep doing the dumb shit we do that is a horrible inconvenience and doesn’t make anyone safer.

The good parts of the shitty plan

A list of the health care reform thingy (so far) that would happen in or around 2010. Actually quite a lot. Reid managed to sneak back in protection against lifetime caps on coverage. Sneaking closer to 2.5th world coverage rather than 3rd with that piece alone (assuming it’s enforceable).
Worth a read. Of course this is [...]

Assumptions

Of course, I’ve been assuming Obama ever wanted a public option or thought he could get one. Maybe he didn’t, and all the (weak as it was) public option talk was really just a bargaining chip that they fully intended to give away. That would shift Dems more out of the ‘incompetent negotiator’ category and [...]

Some questions we should be asking ourselves:
Is it a step forward?
Do the goods outweight the bad?
How will this affect me/family?
How will this affect those less fortunate then me?
Is this sustainable?
Is this progress?
I’d add:
Would doing nothing be better?
Will this help or hurt Democrats in 2010 and 2012?
Keeping Republicans out of power [...]

Plouffe Counters Obamas Healthcare Critics

Tell me this isn’t true. I almost wish I hadn’t just read this. Plouffe, I thought you were SMART!?!
“Rank and file Obama supporters still have faith in the health care strategy, Plouffe insists, a conclusion he reached by listening to the “base” supporters who donated time and money to Obama.” Nooooooooooooo. Only listening to people who [...]

Eating the Shit Sandwich

After watching the Republican party eat itself over the last year (their ‘grass roots’ (ok well not really) tearing what was left of the republican party in half, ending up with the teabaggers polling higher than real republicans, and making them the laughing-stock of everwhere, we’re now faced with the possibility of a real split [...]

Ian Welsh

I don’t remember where I found this cranky motherfucker Ian Welsh, but he seems to nail the issues pretty dead on.

Addendum to Health Care Reform is Dead, 11th Dimensional Chess Edition

Now, all that said, in my dream world, the secret Obama health care plan is this:
Pass this shitty ass bill, pass ANY health care reform bill. Ride the wave of success through to re-election. In the first year of 2012, if Americans are still behind Obama they’ll be behind him STRONG, and at that point, [...]

The Death of Health Care Reform

Republicans (well, conservative democrats really, but basically the same thing) were smart to delay health care reform. The longer it drags out the shittier the bill gets.
At this point it’s about at parity, so the costs (in subsidy and actual likely increase in overall health care cost) of the current bill are getting close to [...]

Panorama

I really (like, really really) miss the panorama mode on my old Canon S30. My Digital Rebel lacks it (it’s way old from back before live-view viewfinder tech). You’d think that the live-view SLR’s have put panorama mode back? But it seems they have not…
